In this workshop, you can: Learn communication tips such as slang, jargon, and gestures to help you get by day-to-day, even as a Japanese novice; know where to go, where to eat, and where to buy items you need during your trip; and gain valuable perspectives on cultural norms to help you fully experience all that Japan has to offer! This session will be conducted in English.

Take part in Korean Pop Culture 101 where we’ll explain all this and more! Learn the basics and context of Korean media as well as some Korean language basics needed to talk about it.

Do you have an anime lover in your life? A Japanese video game enthusiast? Have you ever wondered what’s the big deal about Japanese media, but you’re too intimidated to ask? Take part in Japanese Pop Culture 101 where we’ll explain all this and more! Learn the basics and context of Japanese media as well as some Japanese language basics needed to talk about it.

Join us at Salolampi Spring Adult Week May 11-17 for an intensive, immersive week of Finnish language learning, cultural experiences, food, music, sauna, crafts, games, and a warm and welcoming community of life-long learners! The highlights of each day are the language classes taught at three levels by experienced college-level teachers--Sirpa Tuomainen (Berkeley), Lily Obeda (Univ. of MN), and Tiina Watts (Brigham Young University). Learn Finnish from scratch, or move up the proficiency scale as you speak, read, listen to, and write in Finnish. Our visiting musician this spring will be Kyle Gray Young, a popular performer of Finnish pop and folk songs, and our visiting lecturer will be the president of Finnfest, and former Honorary Consul of Finland, Marianne Wargelin. Villagers at this site can expect smaller cabin groups and smaller language and activity class sizes. Between June 9-July 12, two different sites will be hosting El Lago Del Bosque programs. Our Main Site is the permanent home of the Spanish Village and is the larger of the two sites in terms of both size and capacity, featuring traditional Spanish architecture and a large central plaza. This Danish session takes place within the Norwegian program. Danish villagers and staff will be housed and attend meals together with Norwegian villagers and staff. There will be two hours daily of dedicated Danish language learning groups (roterringsgruppe) with Danish-speaking staff. The rest of the daily activities will take place in Norwegian or a combination of Danish and Norwegian.

One of Germany’s most time-honored traditions is embarking on an apprenticeship and becoming a Lehrling. In Waldsee's German Apprentice Program*, you'll learn German by working half-time developing a community skill auf deutsch and half-time in regular Waldsee learning groups. Waldsee apprentices live with other Waldsee participants and join in village activities, but also contribute to the Waldsee community and develop a work skill at the same time, learning from master teachers and experts in their field.
